Sri Lanka Cricket has partnered with “Melting Point” to create the 2023 LPL Trophy using 100% recycled aluminum cans, contributing to sustainability. A total of 2,532 aluminum cans were collected nationwide for this purpose.
The trophy showcases handcrafted designs reflecting Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage, including engraved patterns dating back to ancient monarchs’ reigns and representing indigenous craftsmanship. Notably, lion heads engraved on the trophy symbolize Sri Lanka’s values of pride, bravery, and leadership.
This innovative approach marks a first in international cricket, emphasizing sustainability. Melting Point’s role in recycling aluminum cans through initiatives like beach cleanups, island-wide campaigns, and bin placement underpins their commitment to environmental stewardship.
The collected cans are melted at their Pilimathalawa factory and transformed into remarkable crafts. Additionally, they foster a recycled product marketplace by connecting manufacturers with retailers, further advancing sustainable practices.
